Maine campers are fortunate to have a variety of stunning locations to choose from when planning their vacation. A camping trip is one of the best ways to take advantage of the picturesque towns and beaches that dot the famed Maine coastline. Choose the camping style that best suits you; for example, if you enjoy being close to nature with few amenities, you might want to camp in one of the many parks that provide semi-primitive camping.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are a number of campgrounds that can literally accommodate any size RV or trailer and offer amenities like electric, water, sewer, and cable hookups in addition to a variety of on-site activities.
1- Seboomook Wilderness Campground in Seboomook Township, ME
Seboomook Wilderness Campground on Moosehead Lake, Maine, offers outdoor adventure and unrivaled Maine beauty. Pitch a tent on one of their roomy campsites or leave your vehicle parked and enjoy Seboomook in comfort and style. There are also eight cabins available, the largest of which can accommodate up to 10 people and two of which allow pets. You can rent kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards at the campground and be just a few steps from the sandy shore where you can enjoy them. You can launch your boat at their marina, spend the day on the lake, or cast early in the morning while standing on the dock.
With thousands of acres of both privately and publicly owned land close by, Seboomook makes a great base camp for hunting. The Seboomook Wilderness Campground has everything you need to make your stay memorable, whether you’re lounging around camp or taking part in the entertaining activities provided.
2- Wild Fox Cabins & Campground in Lakeville, ME
The pet-friendly Wild Fox Cabins & Campground in lovely Lakeville, Maine, in the West Grand Lake Region, offers a variety of rewards including pristine wilderness, numerous natural wonders, and diverse wildlife. This campground is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts because it is situated on renowned Junior Lake, one of the eleven nearby “chain of lakes” connected by historic rivers and streams at the headwaters of the St. Croix River. Many professional anglers believe Junior Lake to be the best fishing location in the Northeastern United States. On the tiny islands dotting the lake, you can go swimming, canoeing, kayaking, boating, and boat camping.
The 155 picturesque acres that surround their property offer miles of ATV trails, abundant hunting opportunities for both small and large game, hiking, leaf-peeping, and bird-watching. Visitors can go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing during the winter. Numerous ospreys, loons, ducks, Canada geese, the sporadic Bald Eagle, and any of the other 185 species of birds that inhabit the region can be found in the tranquil lake. 3- Wild Duck Adult Campground & RV Park in Scarborough, ME
The Wild Duck Campground and RV Park is an ADULT (21+) only campground and RV park with 70 sites. They provide fine adult camping for retirees and honeymooners, On the southern Maine coastline. The largest saltwater marsh in the state and the property of Maine Audubon is called Scarborough Marsh. A wide variety of wildlife, such as waterfowl, egrets, herons, ibises, raptors, muskrats, minks, otter, deer, and moose, is enjoyed by campers.
The state’s largest saltwater marsh, the Scarborough Marsh, is accessible by foot or canoe. You can rent one of their canoes or kayaks or bring your own. Take a peaceful stroll along the well-kept paved roads or go biking to the beach. They provide pull-through sites as well as tidy, level RV sites with full hookups, cable, and 50 amp service at each site. areas set aside for vans, pop-up campers, and tents. 5- On the Saco Family Campground in Brownfield, ME
There are 1,700 feet of Saco River frontage at the On the Saco Family Campground, which is situated on a lovely piece of land. Both riverfront tent sites and RV hookups are available. Sites can be rented on a seasonal, monthly, weekly, or nightly basis. There are many practical amenities available, such as pet-friendly group sites, fully updated bathrooms, on-site laundry, Wi-Fi, a game room, and a playground.
The On the Saco Family Campground provides shuttle service along with canoe, kayak, and tube rentals on the Saco River. This service lets you take a shuttle up the river and then indulge in your preferred water sport on the way back. They also accept private shuttles or off-road rentals.
6- Lake St. George State Park, Liberty
Despite being one of the smaller places on the list, this place is still beautiful. The day use area is a short stroll away from the campgrounds, some of which are situated right on the lakeshore. Lake St. George State Park offers the best camping in Maine experience.
7- Mount Blue State Park, Weld
One of our favorites is Mount Blue State Park. First of all, it’s the biggest in the entire state of Maine and provides everything from swimming to hiking trails. The amphitheater, which hosts movie screenings in the summer, will be appreciated by overnight guests. Mount Blue State Park is one of the top campgrounds in Maine and has a lot to offer.
8- Maine Campgrounds: Bayley’s Camping Resort
Bayley’s Camping Resort will amaze you with its extensive selection of on-site resort amenities, offering so much more than a typical campground. After settling into one of the basic or serviced campsites, you can leave to explore everything the campground has to offer. To get around the sizable campground, you can either rent a golf cart or take the trolley shuttle to the nearby (1 mile) beach. Register at Bayley’s Cove Outdoor Recreational Center for the excellent kid-friendly activities offered by Bayley’s (so Mom and Dad can relax). You can rent a kayak, go fishing, or take advantage of all the amenities at the Little River Club in addition to enjoying the lovely 7-mile stretch of sandy beach.
9- Camping In Maine: Camden Hills State Park
The Camden Hills State Park, just two miles to the north of the sleepy New England town of Camden, is a well-liked getaway spot for outdoor enthusiasts. After pitching your tent at one of the park’s 107 campsites, you can look forward to spending a lot of happy hours exploring its breathtaking hiking trails. Over 30 miles of trails can be explored in total, including the well-liked climb up Mount Battie. In addition, the park offers summertime horseback riding, bird watching, and mountain biking, and wintertime snowmobiling and snowshoeing. You can anticipate a hot shower and a relaxing night at your serviced campsite after a long day on the trails.
10- Maine Campgrounds: Lamoine State Park
The Lamoine State Park, which is gorgeously situated on Frenchman’s Bay and only 8 miles from Ellsworth, is a great place to spend your summer seaside vacation. There are 62 primitive campsites (no hookups) in this campground that can accommodate tents or RVs up to 45 feet. Most visitors come here to take advantage of the campground’s peace and quiet, which is away from the bustle of Bar Harbor but still provides simple access to Acadia National Park. In the summer, visitors can go boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, and wildlife watching; in the winter, they can go cross-country skiing.
